A Crossdressers Guide To Buying Your First Wig

As we all know, a beautiful head of hair is what can make or break a wonderful ensemble.

Your choice of wig and hairstyle not only highlights your face but also portrays your personality and sense of style.

Choosing your first hairpiece can be very frightening as there can be concerns about getting caught, perhaps what will people think, right down to the logistics of how the heck to I pick a wig that is going to suit me. Now is the time to take that first bold step into sisterhood!

I suppose one of the first choices you need to make is will you make this purchase in person, or via a more anonymous route such as the Internet or a catalogue? Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

For the first time buyer I strongly suggest a visit to your local (or not so local) wig shop. It never hurts to test the water and make a phone call for an appointment. This is the time to ask if they are cross dresser friendly, and if they have a room where you could try the hairpieces in privacy.

I have never had a problem and once I was over my nerves we had a great time trying on many different styles, choosing 2 different wigs that suited my lifestyle and me.

One reason I suggest that first time buyers try shopping in person the first time is that you need to discover exactly the right style for you. What may look great in a catalogue or on the Internet may just not suit you when you open package. Once you know what works with you, then shopping online is much easier.

There are many Internet sites that offer wigs not only for the female market but crossdressers as well. I have found the bigger sites a little better as they have many choices, better pricing and usually good return policies if you find that the hair is not really your style.

Some people have chosen to shop via eBay for it's many choices and discount prices. As with all things on eBay, caveat emptor! I make sure the person I am buying from has a good feedback record, and will often send them a message to see how their customer service is.

A question I am often asked is "what is going to happen when the wig is delivered?" If you have a nosey partner that you would prefer not to know I suggest the purchase of a personal mailbox is always a good idea.

One other trick my gal pals have shared is to have the packages delivered when you are in a hotel away from your family. (Just make sure you know when its due to arrive, nothing is worse to patiently wait for a package that arrives two days after you left!).

In my next entry I will explain some features you will want to look out for when you choose your first wig.

Till then,
